Game Pulse: 1987 Season Set
Step into the year baseball came indoors. This set brings the complete 1987 professional baseball season to Game Pulse — all 26 teams, every player, and authentic ballpark cards reflecting the quirks and dimensions of the era's classic venues.
What's Included
All 26 team rosters with full player cards (position players and pitchers)
Every 1987-era ballpark, with ratings derived from period park performance data
New ratings built from the full 1987 regular season, LCS, and World Series
Card Generation
Every card is generated from actual 1987 season statistics. Batter and pitcher ratings are built from real performance data across the full season, with park factors computed from each stadium's run environment — so Frank Viola's card reflects his October dominance, and the Metrodome plays the way it played — turf, baggie, white roof, and all.
The Twins' Improbable Run
1987 belonged to the Minnesota Twins, even if no one outside of Minneapolis-St. Paul saw it coming. They won just 85 games — the fewest of any pennant winner in modern history — but they were nearly unbeatable inside the Hubert H. Humphrey Metrodome. Tom Kelly's club rode Kirby Puckett, Kent Hrbek, Gary Gaetti, Frank Viola, and closer Jeff Reardon through the postseason, with the Homer Hanky-waving home crowd turning the Metrodome into the loudest building in baseball. They lost every road game in the playoffs — and won every home game — taking out the Tigers in the LCS and the heavily favored Cardinals in seven games.
A Season Full of Stars
Beyond the Twins' run, 1987 was packed with stars writing history. Andre Dawson won the NL MVP with 49 home runs after signing a blank contract with the Cubs. George Bell won the AL MVP. Mark McGwire announced himself with 49 home runs as a rookie, breaking the all-time rookie record. Wade Boggs hit .363. Tony Gwynn won another batting title. Roger Clemens won his second straight Cy Young. Ozzie Smith, Cal Ripken Jr., Don Mattingly, Eric Davis, Nolan Ryan, Steve Bedrosian, Dwight Gooden — every star's real 1987 performance is here, card for card.
Relive the 1987 World Series
Minnesota Twins vs. St. Louis Cardinals. The first World Series ever played indoors. Frank Viola won the MVP. The Metrodome hosted four games and the Twins won all four. The Cardinals took all three games at Busch Stadium. Home field decided everything in a series that came down to a Game 7 the Twins won at the Dome. Replay it batter by batter, manage either side, or run the series a few dozen times to see how often history repeats itself. Every at-bat, every pitching change, every ballpark detail — all driven by the real 1987 cards and the roll of the dice.
