Description

Riichi Mahjong. No nonsense.

Agari is a complete Riichi Mahjong game built by a mahjong enthusiast, for mahjong enthusiasts. No gacha. No battle passes, login walls, or premium currency. You buy it once. You own it.

Family friendly. Nothing to alt-tab away from. If you've been waiting for a mahjong game you're not embarrassed to have open on your screen, this is it.

Three ways to play

  • Single Player: four-player mahjong or three-player Sanma against AI, offline, no internet required
  • Private Online Rooms: four-player mahjong or Sanma with friends and family, no accounts, just a room code
  • Daily Wall: one round per day, same wall dealt to every player worldwide. See how your result stacks up.

A table worth sitting at

The centerpiece is a 3D mahjong table rendered with a telephoto camera. The compressed depth of a long lens brings the tiles forward, making them crisp and readable without squinting or leaning in. Blue felt, warm wood rims, clean tile artwork. Every detail tuned for the long session.

Every rule. No shortcuts.

Agari follows the standard Riichi Mahjong ruleset used by major digital mahjong platforms, featuring full yaku support and accurate han, fu, and score calculations. Full ruleset including pao, ippatsu, rinshan kaihou, haitei, chankan, nagashi mangan, abortive draws, double and triple ron.

Sanma plays by its own rules: a 108-tile wall without 2m through 8m, North tiles pulled as bonus dora, and a 35,000-point start.

The scoring engine is open source. The Agari library, published on GitHub and as a standalone Rust crate, handles the full pipeline: hand decomposition, yaku detection, fu calculation, shanten analysis, and wait recognition. Built by the same author. Anyone can check the math.

A tenpai helper shows your valid waits and tile acceptance in real time. There when you want it, out of the way when you don't.

A cast of voices

Every chi, pon, kan, riichi declaration, and ron is called out in Japanese, all real human voice acting. Choose from several distinct voice characters, female and male, each with its own sound and feel. You pick your voice; the AI opponents each get their own. The table sounds alive.

AI that actually plays mahjong

The AI plays real mahjong. Not a simplified approximation. Tile acceptance, shanten distance, 5-block theory, call decisions, discard reads. By the book. Fine-tuned parameters drive four distinct personality modes: Offensive (chases fast hands), Balanced, Defensive (avoids dealing in), and Menzen (stays closed hand). Set each opponent's style individually, dial them all at once, or let Random assign a mix. An AI Difficulty setting tunes the overall table: Normal for stronger opponents, Easy for a more casual game.

Learn and improve

  • Interactive lessons: step-by-step guided tutorials teach core foundations on curated tables, with hands dealt to illustrate specific concepts like building closed hands, calling for speed, and recognizing basic yaku.
  • Kaisetsu (Guided Play): turns a single-player match into real-time guided practice. Get advice on discards, calls, riichi, and push or fold. Every recommendation comes with its reasoning in plain mahjong terms: tile acceptance, hand value, and real deal-in risk. When a choice is genuinely close, it tells you that too. Kaisetsu games never count toward your statistics.
  • Built-in reference: every yaku with examples, a lexicon, and scoring tables.

Daily Wall

Every day, the same wall is dealt to every player worldwide. No accounts, no servers. Just a deterministic seed from the date. It resets at midnight UTC. If you've played Wordle, you understand the idea.

Play anywhere

Private online rooms. 2 to 4 players, with AI to fill any open seats. Share a room code, sit down, play. Reconnect if you drop. Or play solo against AI on a plane, a train, or your couch with the Wi-Fi off. Native support on Windows, macOS, and Linux, and rendering tuned to sip power for cooler, quieter machines and longer battery life on laptops and Steam Deck.

Your stats, your history

Agari tracks your performance over time: first-place rate, deal-in rate, yaku frequency, han distribution. See which yaku you've won with and which you're still chasing. Sanma keeps statistics of its own.

Review every hand

Every match is recorded on your machine. Browse your full history, filter by placement, format, mode, or best hand, and open any match for a per-round score ledger down to the winning hand, yaku, han, fu, and dora. Replay any round on the 3D table with all hands face-up and wait and danger indicators displayed. Step through each turn, or watch the whole round play out. See exactly what your opponents were holding, and what you might have done differently.

The details that make it enjoyable

  • Riichi music: user-selectable tracks that kick in on riichi declaration for an added rush of excitement
  • Smooth animations throughout: discards, calls, wins, round transitions
  • Cinematic win overlay: yaku called out by voice as your hand is revealed
  • A main menu designed as a showpiece, with a live cinematic Yakuman hand display
  • A premium 3D game table: felt, lighting, and tile rendering tuned for comfort over long sessions
  • Decor options: multiple table surfaces (felt, fabric, leather) and tile face designs, plus color swatches including black tiles
  • Seeded single-player matches: replay the exact same wall and AI decisions from a seed
  • Per-channel volume control: tune menu music, riichi music, voice clips, and sound effects independently
  • In-game options: Arabic numerals, dora highlights, tsumogiri highlights, identical tile highlights

Built for the game you already love.

Agari is made for people who want a clean, complete digital mahjong table. Not a simplified version, not a free-to-play grind. A full ruleset, smart opponents, and a game that respects your time. It's just mahjong, done right.
